Architect / Client - HOK Architects
Location - Manhattan Beach, California
Completed - 2006
The new Manhattan Beach Fire and Police Facility (Public Safety Facility) sits adjacent to the existing 1970's-era city hall and public library. The new construction incorporates a civic center plaza, two fountains and commemorative paving celebrating events in the city's history and remembering the services of the city's police and fire departments. the public plaza's design was intended to create quiet and reflective spaces for outdoor use by library patrons, whilst also accommodating small groups for receptions and events. The overall layout suggests a nautilus or curvilinear wave pattern to reflect the coastal city's environment. the project incorporates planting on structure and on grade.
